target species

Dogs (> 2 -10 kg)

Indications for use, specifying the target species

For the treatment of dogs from 2 to 10 kg of body weight:

It can be used against flea infestations, alone or associated with ticks and/or biting lice.

Treatment of infestations by fleas (Ctenocephalides spp.). Insecticidal efficacy against new infestations by adult fleas persists for 8 weeks. Prevention of flea multiplication by inhibition of the development of eggs (ovicidal activity) and of larvae and pupae (larvicidal activity) originating from eggs laid by adult fleas for eight weeks after application.

Treatment of tick infestations (Ixodes ricinus, Dermacentor variabilis, Dermacentor reticulatus, Rhipicephalus sanguineus). The veterinary medicine has an acaricidal efficacy that persists for up to 4 weeks against ticks.

Treatment of infestations by biting lice (Trichodectes canis).

The veterinary medicine can be used as part of the treatment strategy for the control of Flea Allergy Dermatitis (FAD), where it has been previously diagnosed by a veterinarian.

contraindications

In the absence of available data, the veterinary medicinal product should not be used in puppies less than 8 weeks of age and/or weighing less than 2 kg.

Do not use in sick (eg systemic disease, fever) or convalescent animals.

Do not use in rabbits, as adverse reactions including death could occur.

In the absence of studies, use of the veterinary medicinal product in species other than the target species is not recommended.

This veterinary medicine is specially developed for dogs. Do not use in cats or ferrets as this could lead to overdose.

Do not use in cases of hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the excipients.

Special warnings for each target species

Bathing or immersion in water should be avoided for 2 days after application of the veterinary medicinal product as well as bathing more frequently than once a week as no studies have been conducted to investigate how this affects the efficacy of the veterinary medicinal product. Emollient shampoos can be used prior to treatment, but reduce the duration of flea protection to approximately 5 weeks when used weekly after application of the veterinary medicinal product. Weekly baths with a 2% chlorhexidine medicated shampoo did not affect efficacy against fleas in a 6-week study.

Dogs should not be allowed to swim in waterways for 2 days after application. (See section 6.6).

There may be an adhesion of some ticks. For this reason, the transmission of infectious diseases cannot be completely excluded if conditions are unfavorable.

Pet fleas often infest the animal's baskets, beds, and habitual resting areas, such as carpets and soft furnishings, which should be treated in the case of massive infestation and at the start of control measures, with a suitable insecticide and vacuumed regularly.

Other pets present in the same household should also be treated with a suitable veterinary medicinal product.

Special precautions for use

Special precautions for use in animals

Avoid contact with the animal's eyes.

Do not apply the veterinary medicinal product to wounds or damaged skin.

It is important to ensure that the veterinary medicinal product is applied to an area where the animal cannot lick itself and that animals do not lick each other after treatment.

Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the veterinary medicinal product to animals

This veterinary medicinal product can cause eye, skin and mucosal irritation. Therefore, contact with the mouth, skin and eyes should be avoided.

People with known hypersensitivity to insecticides or alcohol should avoid all contact with the veterinary medicinal product.

Avoid contact of the veterinary medicinal product with fingers. If this occurs, wash your hands with soap and water.

After accidental eye exposure, rinse eye gently with clean water.

Wash hands after use.

Ingestion of the veterinary medicinal product is harmful. Prevent children from having access to the pipettes and discard used pipettes immediately after applying the veterinary medicinal product. In case of accidental ingestion consult a doctor immediately.

Treated animals should not be touched until the application site is dry, and children should not be allowed to play with treated animals until the application site is dry. Therefore it is recommended not to treat the animals during the day, but rather to treat them in the evening, and that these recently treated animals do not sleep with the owners, especially children.

Do not smoke, drink or eat during the application.

The excipient alcohol can cause damage to furniture or other varnished or painted surfaces.

Adverse reactions (frequency and seriousness)

Very rare adverse reactions that have been reported after use include: transient skin reactions at the application site (flaking, local hair loss, itching, redness) as well as general itching or hair loss. After administration, excessive salivation, reversible nervous signs (increased sensitivity to stimulation, depression, other nervous signs), vomiting or respiratory symptoms have also been observed.

The frequency of adverse reactions should be classified according to the following groups:

- Very frequently (more than 1 animal for every 10 animals treated presents adverse reactions)

- Frequently (more than 1 but less than 10 animals per 100 animals treated)

- Infrequently (more than 1 but less than 10 animals per 1,000 animals treated)

- Rarely (more than 1 but less than 10 animals per 10,000 animals treated)

- On very rare occasions (less than 1 animal per 10,000 animals treated, including isolated cases).

In case of licking at the point of application, a brief period of excessive salivation may be observed, mainly due to the nature of the excipient.

Do not overdose.

Use during pregnancy, lactation or lay

Pregnancy and lactation:

The veterinary medicinal product can be used during pregnancy and lactation.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction

None known.

Dosage and route of administration

Route of administration and dose:

spot anointing

One pipette of 0.67 ml per dog from more than 2 kg to 10 kg, corresponds to the minimum recommended dose of 6.7 mg/kg of fipronil and 6 mg/kg of (S)-methoprene, by topical application on the fur.

In the absence of safety studies, the minimum treatment interval is 4 weeks.

Administration method:

Hold the pipet in an upright position. Tap the narrow part of the pipette to ensure that the contents are in the main part of the pipette. Open the tip. Part the animal's fur on the back, at the base of the neck in front of the shoulder blades until the skin is visible. Place the tip of the pipette on the skin and squeeze the pipette several times until its contents are completely emptied directly onto the skin in a single point.

Temporary changes in the coat (sticky, greasy hair) have been observed at the point of application.

Overdose (symptoms, emergency procedures, antidotes), if necessary

No adverse reactions have been observed in safety studies conducted in the target species, in puppies from 8 weeks of age, growing dogs, and dogs weighing approximately 2 kg treated once at five times the recommended dose. The risk of adverse reactions (see section 4.6) may however be increased when overdosed, therefore animals should always be treated with the correct pipette size corresponding to their body weight.
