Ophthalm 25 ml
Composition
Sodium hyaluronate gel > 0.15%
Aloe vera 10%
Centella asiatica 10% (asiaticoside and other saponins)
Properties:
- Sodium hyaluronate : natural polymer with viscoelastic properties that promote lubrication and hydration of the ocular surface. Repairs the eye's natural moisturizing barrier and prevents moisture evaporation.
- Centella asiatica : healing action of the ocular mucosa in cases of small lesions and dryness due to allergies.
- Aloe vera : combats eye irritation. Contains enzymes carboxypeptidases and bradykinases that cause a calming effect. Its main active substance is aloe emodin, a heteroside that makes up aloin. It has analgesic, anti-inflammatory and tissue repair properties.
Oftal ha 25 ml does not contain preservatives.
Indications of use
Gel eye moisturizer with great persistence
Product indicated for the relief, dryness and irritation of the eyes and eyelids, caused by different external agents.
Guarantees maximum and prolonged humidification, thanks to the lubricating and hydrating properties of sodium hyaluronate.
The cornea and the ocular conjunctiva are separated from the external environment by a very thin layer of fluid, with a complex and variable chemical composition, called the tear film. This tear film plays an important role in ocular physiology, both at the refractive optical level and at the metabolic level, also contributing, in a definitive way, to the lubrication of the cornea and its protection against the aggressions of physical, chemical and microbiological agents.
The term tears refers to the liquid present as a precorneal film located in the conjunctival sac.
The exposed part of the eyeball is covered by a thin liquid film called the precorneal tear film.
Optical stability and normal function of the eye depend on an adequate supply of the fluid that covers its surface.
The integrity of the corneal epithelium requires the presence of a continuous tear film on the exposed ocular surface, which also favors blinking.
Tear film functions
Optical function as it maintains the corneal surface optically uniform.
Mechanical function with the washing of ocular debris, foreign substances, from the cornea and the conjunctival sac and lubrication of the surface.
Nutritional function because it allows the passage of oxygen and nutrients to the cornea.
Antibacterial function mainly exerted by the lysozyme present in the tear.
The tear film must be kept within fairly narrow quantitative and qualitative limits to preserve the integrity and proper functioning of the visual system.
Tear film layers
Superficial lipid layer : it is located on the tear-air contact surface and is formed on the aqueous part of the tear film from the oily secretions of the Meibomian glands. It has the following functions:
Reduces the rate of evaporation of the underlying aqueous tear layer.
Increases surface tension and helps vertical stability of the tear film so that tears do not spill over the lower eyelid margin.
Lubricates the eyelids as they glide over the surface of the eyeball.
Aqueous Middle Layer : The middle layer of the tear film is the aqueous position, which is secreted by the main orbital gland and the gland of the third eyelid. This layer represents almost the total thickness of the tear film, 6 10 microns, much thicker than the thin superficial bone layer and fulfills four main functions:
It supplies atmospheric oxygen to the corneal epithelium.
It has antibacterial substances such as lactoferrin and lysozyme.
Provides a smooth optical surface, optimal for eliminating some small irregularities in the cornea.
Eliminates, by washing, remains of the cornea and conjunctiva.
Posterior layer of mucha: The innermost layer of the tear film is a thin mucoid layer made by goblet cells of the conjunctiva and also by the crypts of Henle and the glands of Manz. It is the deepest layer of the precorneal tear film.
The preocular tear film depends on a constant supply of mucus, which must have appropriate physicochemical characteristics to maintain adequate hydration of the corneal and conjunctival surfaces. The mucus filaments present in the tear film act as lubricants, allowing the eyelid margin and eyelid conjunctiva to glide over each other smoothly, with minimal frictional energy loss during blinking and rotating eye movements.
tear dysfunction
Tears contain 98.2% water, as a consequence of the natural need to lubricate the conjunctiva and the corneal surface, a pH between 7.2 and 7.8 and a very complex chemical composition with lipids, proteins, enzymes, metabolites, electrons and carbon ions. hydrogen.
Quantitative or qualitative abnormalities, in terms of tear production, result in failure to produce a normal tear film, resulting in failure to produce a normal precorneal tear film, which will lead to pathological processes such as secondary conjunctivitis and keratitis.

The inability of the drainage system to eliminate the tears produced, either due to drainage obstruction or tear hyperproduction, will give rise to chronic epiflora.
Dry eye or keratoconjunctivitis sicca
This disease is more common in dogs, 1% of cases in the daily clinic, however, it is occasional in cats.
It is produced by decreased production of the aqueous component of tears, which causes desiccation and chronic inflammation of the cornea and conjunctiva, with ocular pain, blepharospasm, mucous or mucopurulent discharge adhering to the ocular surface, and the cornea appearing dry. , dull and, occasionally, corneal ulcers appear.
In artificial tear treatment with an application frequency of 4-10 times/day, the active ingredients include humectants such as hyaluronic acid, which improve tear adhesion to the cornea.
